Transition to school

Starting school is a major transition for our children.  The experience can be an exciting one, while for others it may be overwhelming.  In recent years the concept of “school readiness” has broadened from its traditional academic (or cognitive) base to a broader holistic approach that also includes the physical, social and emotional developmental aspects of learning.
Children who go to school not yet ready to learn are more likely to have negative effects into adulthood.  With the increasing complexity of contemporary living, and the corresponding increase in the skills needed by young people entering adult society, “school readiness” has never been more important.
At Tumut Community Preschool our vision is to ensure every child develops a love of learning and leaves Preschool on their educational journey with the skills and confidence to learn and grow into successful and happy people.
Developing socially and emotionally sets children up for future success and is a key focus of our school readiness approach.
